Twitter has overhauled its apps and website to give greater prominence to photographs, including by allowing members to feature one image as a large banner at the top of their timelines, in a redesign that makes the service more reminiscent of Facebook.
The firm’s chief executive Dick Costolo revealed the new look on American breakfast television today.
On twitter.com, it moves members’ photo stream higher up on the left hand side and makes the thumbnail images bigger. Their existing profile picture, or avatar, will be displayed at the centre of the new large banner image across all apps and the website.
“Upload an all-new header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Android or twitter.com, and the same image will appear whenever anyone views your profile on the web or these apps,” Twitter said.
