Hurricane forecasters lean on social media to spread the news

With the hurricane season off to an early start, the National Hurricane Center’s social-media pages were already buzzing with updates, photos and maps.

Tropical Storm Beryl moved across North Florida on Monday, dropping heavy rains in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

That activity, a week before the official start of the storm season on June 1, helped the agency’s NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center Facebook page grow to nearly 133,000 “likes.”
